2020 coming to an end is certainly cause for celebration, but it’s still important to keep your celebrating safe. According to the CDC, NYE celebrations should remain at home and be limited to members of your direct household, as our region and state continue to do our part to prevent the spread of Covid 19.
Staying home on New Years Eve doesn’t have to be bad news. Start a new tradition this year by planning an epic evening of fun and celebration – even if you can’t head out on the town. Just because you’re home doesn’t mean you can’t go all out, and if 2020 taught us anything, it’s to make the most of the present moment – no matter what it brings.
Dress up in your finest, whip up festive cocktails and plan a decadent meal complete with dessert. Organize a virtual toast or gather with loved ones via Zoom to share drinks or even dinner from a distance. Watch Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and organize your own personal dance party in your living room. When the ball drops, celebrate via Facetime with those who matter most. You may not be surrounded by a crowd, but you’ll have everything you need to welcome a new year in your own personal style.
Dress Up
Who says you have to save your finest threads for “going out?” Your couch is just as suitable a location for dressing up in your fanciest clothes, doing your hair and going all out for the sake of personal style. Take selfies to document your outfit, and say farewell to 2020 at your most glamorous.
Make Specialty Cocktails
Just because you can’t get to your favorite restaurant and buy that festive cocktail you love, doesn’t mean you can’t bring the festive to your home. Choose a speciality cocktail to have for your midnight toast, and savor the year ending with a sparkling treat for yourself.
Prepare a Decadent Last Meal
Make this last meal of 2020 something to remember, even if it’s only you and your roommate. Prepare a colorful charcuterie board, piping hot appetizers or a fancy dessert recipe you’ve been eyeing. If cooking isn’t your thing, order takeout from your favorite, fanciest restaurant and support a local business while you’re at it.
Plan a Virtual Toast With Loved Ones
Even if you can’t be beside one another, you can still be together as the year comes to its final close. Plan an evening on Zoom with family from a distance, or organize a group toast with friends at midnight. 2020 has taught us to be grateful for advances in technology that make it possible to stay connected, even when we can’t actually be together.
Dance it Out
If NYE is usually an all-out dance party for you and your loved ones, keep the tradition going by planning your own living room dance party, and patch in your friends and favorites virtually. Create an epic playlist of your favorite songs, don your fanciest clothes and dance away the stress and strain of this year at home.
